About Scott

Sarasota lawyer Scott Van Ness understands that the ethical practice of law requires not only knowledge, but wisdom; not only expertise, but principle. Practicing in the areas of Real Estate Law, Business Law, Landlord/Tenant Law and Commercial Litigation, Scott brings a unique blend of experience and integrity to every case.

Scott is a born-again Christian and believes that you can live a Christian life and incorporate that in how you represent a client and how you live your life.  God has some very specific things that He has to say about how we live our lives and how He wants us to treat our fellow man.  We are taught to live different then the rest of the world.  That includes when we seek legal advice, when someone has wronged us and when we have been wronged by others.  I am not telling anyone to how to do anything, but I will listen to you, pray with you and give you Godly counsel.

Living in the greater Sarasota area for the majority of his life, Mr. Van Ness attended the University of Florida , where he earned both his undergraduate degree in finance (1989) and his Juris Doctor degree (1991). He was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1992.

After graduating from law school, Mr. Van Ness spent 7 years as an Assistant State Attorney. Upon the completion of his time with the State Attorney’s office, Mr. Van Ness entered private practice in Sarasota. His Christian faith provides a solid ethical basis for his law practice, and is at the core of all dealings with clients, colleagues and professionals.

Mr. Van Ness has been trained by Peacemaker Ministries in the path of a peacemaker, conflict coaching, mediation and arbitration.  He is an active member of the Christian Legal Society, The Florida Bar and the Sarasota County Bar Association.

Mr. Van Ness lives in Sarasota with his wife and children; is an active member of his church and enjoys his position as a football official.
